Link Hogthrob captains the spaceship Swinetrek in The Muppet Show’s recurring Pigs in Space sketches. He looks every inch the heroic leading man, complete with polished uniform and booming self-confidence. Unfortunately, his leadership is much less impressive than his posture, and his misunderstandings are often the source of the crew’s problems. Opposite First Mate Piggy and Dr. Julius Strangepork, Link provides a parody of the handsome but not especially perceptive science-fiction commander. He treats small developments like major victories and tends to overlook the obvious. His exaggerated good looks, heroic poses and oblivious bravado create a running joke about television adventure heroes. He also turns up outside the spaceship, where the same inflated sense of importance follows him into other routines.
