The collision of two massive pop-culture universes is officially happening. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Muppet Show, Marvel Comics has announced a massive one-shot comic event hitting shelves on September 23, 2026: The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe #1.
Instead of guessing which heroes might run into Kermit and the gang, we now have the official details on exactly who is teaming up. Featuring heavy-hitting creators like Chip Zdarsky, Kyle Starks, and Pete Woods, here are the factual, confirmed storylines and crossovers you can expect when the Muppets invade the Marvel mythos.
The Main Event: Mojo Kidnaps Rowlf the Dog
The flagship story of the issue, penned by Eisner-winning writer (and self-described Muppets superfan) Chip Zdarsky with art by Pete Woods, features a delightfully bizarre premise. The X-Men villain Mojo—known for his obsession with ratings and television entertainment—kidnaps Rowlf the Dog to help launch his new streaming service.
To rescue their piano-playing friend, an incredible team-up forms. Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and Fozzie Bear will join forces with Spider-Man, Black Panther, Wolverine, and Emma Frost. Zdarsky also confirmed he gets to write Deadpool for the issue, guaranteeing plenty of fourth-wall-breaking chaos.
Science Bros: Muppet Labs Meets the Avengers
What happens when the greatest (and most disastrous) minds of the Muppet world meet the smartest heroes in the Marvel Universe? Writer Kyle Starks and artist Mike Henderson are answering that question.
Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and his long-suffering assistant Beaker will welcome Bruce Banner (The Hulk) and Hank Pym (Ant-Man) to Muppet Labs. The story will center around a daring experiment involving Gamma Rays and Pym Particles. Given Beaker’s usual track record with basic chemistry, adding shrinking technology and Hulk-inducing radiation into the mix is sure to end in spectacular disaster.
Mystical Medicine: Doctor Strange and the Swedish Chef
In perhaps the most unexpected pairing of the entire comic, writer Ashley Allen and artist Paco Medina are taking us to the Sanctum Sanctorum. When Clea falls ill from a strange mystical virus, the Sorcerer Supreme himself, Doctor Strange, is completely unable to find a magical cure.
The hero who arrives to save the day? The Swedish Chef. How a bork-ing culinary disaster is going to cure a magical illness remains to be seen, but the visual contrast between the dramatic Doctor Strange and the chaotic Chef is exactly the kind of tonal clash this crossover demands.
Cosmic Chaos: Pigs in Space Meet the Guardians
You can’t have a Muppet universe crossover without venturing into the stars. Writer MacKenzie Cadenhead and artist David Baldeon are bringing the Pigs in Space crew directly into the path of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Captain Link Hogthrob, First Mate Piggy, and Dr. Julius Strangepork will crash their ship into none other than Rocket Raccoon and Groot. Putting an arrogant, trigger-happy raccoon in the same room as the wildly incompetent Pigs in Space crew is a recipe for absolute interstellar mayhem.
A Massive Celebration
The comic serves as the centerpiece of The Muppet Show‘s 50th-anniversary celebration within the Disney publishing wing, following last year’s highly successful series of Muppet variant covers. The September 23 release date honors the same month the classic show originally premiered. Fans can also look forward to special variant covers by Nick Bradshaw, Humberto Ramos, Ron Lim, and a special Muppet Treasure Island 30th-anniversary variant by Matteo Lolli.
Where to Order?
Major International Portals
- Midtown Comics (midtowncomics.com): The gold standard for online comic ordering. Being the largest retailer in North America, they will carry every single variant cover available for the Muppet crossover. The interface is clean and modular, though shipping from New York will cost a bit more.
- Things From Another World (tfaw.com): An excellent digital storefront for pre-ordering up to two months in advance. They have a dedicated pre-order section that updates cleanly with Marvel’s monthly catalogs.
Since September catalogs are actively opening up for pre-orders, searching these portals for “Muppets Marvel” over the next few weeks will bring up the main issue and all the anniversary variants.
