Sesame Street is adding even more familiar faces to Netflix this fall — although these versions come with a lot more metal, gadgets and giant robot powers.
Sesame Street Mecha Builders is coming to Netflix on October 26, 2026, bringing the animated adventures of Mecha Elmo, Mecha Cookie Monster and Mecha Abby Cadabby to the streaming service as Netflix continues expanding its growing Sesame Street collection.
For longtime Sesame fans who haven’t encountered the series before, don’t expect the usual trip to 123 Sesame Street. Mecha Builders takes three familiar characters and reimagines them as high-tech robot heroes capable of tackling some very large — and very strange — problems.
What Is Sesame Street Mecha Builders?
Sesame Street Mecha Builders is a 3D CGI animated Sesame Street spinoff starring robotic versions of Elmo, Cookie Monster and Abby Cadabby.
Instead of learning on the familiar Sesame Street set, the trio operates as heroes-in-training who use science, technology, engineering and math to solve oversized problems.
Their basic approach is simple:
Plan it. Test it. Solve it.
The Mechas don’t always get the answer right the first time, which is part of the point. The series encourages children to experiment, rethink a problem and try again rather than giving up.
Sesame Workshop created the show with older preschoolers in mind, using stories involving subjects such as simple machines, force, measurement and the properties of matter.
And because this is Sesame Street, the educational part tends to arrive wrapped inside something considerably sillier.
Elmo, Cookie Monster and Abby Get Some Serious Upgrades
Each member of the Mecha Builders team has their own collection of abilities.
Mecha Elmo carries built-in tools, Mecha Abby can use technology including a hologram generator, and Mecha Cookie Monster has abilities that include his wonderfully named “googly vision.”
The characters can also use exaggerated robot powers to deal with problems that would be impossible for their regular Sesame Street counterparts.
One moment might involve solving an engineering problem. Another might require figuring out how to deal with an enormous object threatening Pretty Big City.
It’s Sesame Street problem-solving with the scale turned way up.
Mecha Builders Isn’t Actually a New Show
Some fans seeing the Netflix announcement may assume Sesame Street Mecha Builders is another brand-new production.
It actually dates back several years.
The series originally premiered in May 2022 on Cartoonito on Cartoon Network and HBO Max. Sesame Workshop described it at the time as Sesame Street’s first 3D CGI spinoff.
Its first season contains 26 episodes, with two 11-minute stories in each episode, giving the series 52 individual adventures.
The October release therefore isn’t a reboot or revival.
Instead, Netflix is giving the existing series a new streaming home and potentially introducing it to a much larger group of Sesame Street viewers.
Netflix’s Sesame Street Collection Keeps Getting Bigger
The addition of Mecha Builders is only one part of Netflix’s increasingly large Sesame Street presence.
Netflix launched its official Sesame Street collection in June 2026, which now includes more than 100 library episodes and specials, alongside newer Sesame Street programming.
And there’s much more coming.
Netflix and Sesame Workshop recently extended their agreement to continue bringing new seasons of Sesame Street to the service through Season 62.
Season 57 Volume 4 is scheduled to arrive on November 23, 2026, while Volumes 5 and 6 are expected in 2027. New Sesame Street episodes will also continue to be available day-and-date through PBS KIDS in the United States.
There’s even a new Sesame Street feature film currently in development from Netflix, Sesame Workshop and production company Rideback.
Taken together, it’s becoming clear that Sesame Street is turning into a significant part of Netflix’s kids and family lineup.
A Different Side of Sesame Street
For longtime fans, Mecha Builders is an interesting example of just how far Sesame Street characters can be stretched without completely losing what makes them recognizable.
Cookie Monster is still Cookie Monster.
Elmo is still Elmo.
Abby is still Abby.
They just happen to be gigantic CGI robot superheroes now.
Underneath the transformations, gadgets and enormous problems, the show still relies on something Sesame Street has been teaching children for decades: curiosity, cooperation and figuring things out together.
The biggest difference is that now they occasionally need robot arms to do it.
